Not every Christian is able to adopt or foster. But the call to care for vulnerable children belongs to the whole church, not just a few. Activate127 gives ordinary Christians practical pathways to become a consistent, committed presence in the lives of vulnerable children and families right in their own communities.
As a mentor. A tutor. A healthcare professional. A business owner. An advocate. A caregiver. An adoptive family.
The church already has the people. Activate127 helps mobilize them.
Over the past ten years, Alliance Care Now developed and tested the Activate127 model in Ethiopia, one of the most complex humanitarian contexts in the world. What began with Christians serving children at a single orphanage has grown into a national movement.
In 2026 alone:
2,400 churches enrolled in training
8,000 volunteer mentors
145 churches completed all graduation requirements
100 churches are now launching programs in their own communities
2,500 volunteer mentors are preparing to serve vulnerable children directly
This didn't happen by recruiting churches one by one. It happened by working through existing indigenous Christian structures, national fellowships, denominations, and their ministry networks, to equip and activate the local church at scale.
Activate127 is built on a simple but powerful model. A national Christian fellowship connects to its denominations. Denominations connect to their ministry networks. Ministry networks train and activate local churches. Local churches recruit and mobilize Christian volunteers. And volunteers show up consistently for vulnerable children and families in their own neighborhoods.
No parallel structure. No outside organization running programs. Just the local church, equipped, activated, and owning the work long-term.
The seven Activate127 program models cover the full range of need:
Every country has vulnerable children. Every country has a church. Activate127 connects the two.
We are beginning to explore partnerships with national church fellowships, denominations, and ministry networks in other countries who are ready to mobilize their own churches to serve vulnerable children and families.
If you look at what happened in Ethiopia and find yourself thinking, our churches could do this, we would love to hear from you.
Activate127 is a program of Alliance Care Now, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that has been working in Ethiopia for over ten years in partnership with local churches, government institutions, and community organizations to serve orphaned and vulnerable children and families.
